10-cent drink container deposit now applies; bottles and cans bought outside Singapore are not refunded
Since 1 October, most bottled and canned drinks sold in Singapore carry a 10-cent deposit that you get back when you return the empty container to a Return Right machine.
Plastic and metal drink containers from 150ml to 3 litres must carry the BCRS deposit mark, and the deposit is refunded when you return them at a Return Right reverse vending machine. BCRS Ltd. has clarified that containers bought outside Singapore cannot be refunded, even if the label looks right, because they are not in the system. Dine-in food outlets in the Return Right F&B Scheme may collect containers without charging the deposit. Details are on the NEA page.
