Schools close only if the next day haze forecast tops PSI 300, and any decision comes by about 8pm
For now lessons and national exams are going ahead in enclosed venues with air purifiers, so send your child as usual and watch the school channels in the evening.
Education Minister Desmond Lee said on 10 October that MOE would consider closing schools and postponing national exams if the next day haze forecast reaches the hazardous range, which is a 24-hour PSI above 300. He said any decision to close schools would be announced around 8pm the day before, through schools and official channels, and that the ministry would review each day whether schools stay open. Until that point, lessons and national exams continue in enclosed venues with air purifiers, and schools are ready to step up measures if needed. A student who is unwell and cannot sit an exam can apply for Special Consideration through the school. If you are unsure what applies to your child, ask the school directly rather than relying on messages forwarded in chat groups.
