Police investigating 77 people after 5-day crackdown on unlicensed moneylending

Lending money or letting others use your bank account for a loan shark is illegal, and helping them can put you under police investigation too.

Police ran an islandwide operation from 21 to 25 September and are investigating 77 people for suspected unlicensed moneylending. Seven are suspected of harassing borrowers at their homes, 38 were runners doing ATM transfers, and 32 are believed to have given their bank accounts, ATM cards, PINs and internet banking tokens to the lenders. Police ask the public to avoid unlicensed moneylenders and not to work for or help them in any way. To report, call the police hotline 1800-255-0000 or use www.police.gov.sg/i-witness; reports are confidential.
