NGO reports migrant worker's $6,100 recruitment fee sent mostly to personal bank accounts, not the licensed agency

Before paying any recruitment fee, check the money goes into your employment agency's own company bank account, not a personal account.

TWC2, a migrant worker NGO, reported a case where a worker paid $6,100 in recruitment fees before starting her Singapore job, but most of the money went into the personal bank accounts of two individuals rather than her employment agency's own account — only $500 of one $4,000 payment actually reached the registered agency. Singapore law caps agency fees at two months' salary and requires the fee to be paid to the agency itself, not to an individual. If an agent asks you to pay into a personal account or someone else's payroll account, treat it as a warning sign and ask for an official receipt from the agency before paying. You can check whether an agency is licensed on MOM's website, and file a complaint with MOM or TADM if you have already paid into the wrong account.
