Work6 Sept 2026Myanmar requires 25% of overseas wages to be remitted via official channels
Since September 2023 (expanded August 2024), Myanmar's government requires citizens working abroad to remit at least 25% of their foreign wages home through an official channel — a licensed bank or registered remittance provider linked to the banking system. Informal transfer methods (e.g. hundi) are not accepted. Non-compliance has been reported to affect passport renewal and the right to work overseas, so it is worth keeping proof of your official remittances. Always confirm current requirements with the Myanmar Embassy.
